Abstract

For the detection of V. parahaemolyticus, bacteriolgical examination was carried out with the samples of sea-water, fishes and shell-fishes taken from the southern in Chunnam province during 7 months, from Feb. to Aug. 1981. Through the survey, the results obtained were as follows:
1. Two hundred twenty six strains of V. para¢¥aaemolti, ticus were isolated from 1, 0.11 specimen.
2. Bacteriological characterizations shown in morphological, ecological and biochemical examination of 226 isolated strains were identified as typical V. parahaen.olyticus.
3. Among hemolysis of 226 isolated strains on rabbit blood in wagatsmas media for 24 hours, 101 positive strains (44.7%) and 125 negative strains (55.3%) were found, and after 48 hours 122 positive strains (54.0%) and 104 negative strains (46.0%). The same procedure on human blood in nutrient agar with NaCl for 24 hours showed 78 positive strains (34.5%) and 148 negative strains (65.5%), and after 48 hours 83 positive strains (36.7%) and 143 negative strains (63.3%).
4. Among the 226 isolated strains, agglutination of positive strains to K-factor seruni was seen in 178(78.80/o) strains, but 48(21.20/c) strains did not show and agglutination to K-factor even if it showed the same phenotmnon,
5. Monthly results of isolated strains from Jul to Aug were found as follows: Among the 268 specimen, 97 isolated strains in Aug, 68 strains from 223 specimen in Jul.
6. Geographical distributions of V. parahaemolyticus strains isolated are as follows: 91 strains (32.5%) in Mok-po, 76(24.60/o) in Kwang-ju, 34(16.4%) in Young-gwang and 25(11.5%) in Yeo-su.
7. From the specimens of sea-water and marine products, the isolation rate of V. parahaemolyticus is as follows: 48.1%(25 isolated strain) from turban shell, 39.3% (22 strain) from harded-shell mussel, 37.5% (21 strain) from short-necked clam, 31.410 (16 strain) from ascidian and 14.3% (6 strain) from sea-water.
